They Mostly Come Out At Night by Wesley Southard

They Mostly Come At Night by Wesley Southard Releases November 8, 2022

Wesley Southard’s newest book is 11 short stories of frightful fun! I have read a couple of Southard’s novellas and I absolutely liked those stories! Southard has a smooth writing style. The stories start out strong, they stay strong, and they end with a bang. You really can’t go wrong with any of Southard’s books. Here is a breakdown of the stories.

The first short story, My Body, is about a culinary news reporter who decides to review the newest Italian food restaurant in town. That ending…ick!

Next is, The Length I’d Go. At what length would you go to not give into peer pressure? Turns out, someone out there goes to a lot of trouble to get what he wants.

The third story, Stuck, a very short and sweet story about being….stuck. Loved this one!

Separated Self is a very neat story. It’s about second chances when you are an evil person or an all around jerk. The ending is perfect..

For You Anything is an apocalyptic short story about a woman trying to survive. I saw a little bit of her in me.

The sixth story is called Catalog. Now this is an odd story. A husband receives a catalog that he doesn’t want to share with anyone. I loved this ending.

The next one, Celebrity Mean Tweets, is a twitter horror short story! Move over Jimmy Kimmel, Southard is better at this game.

In Echo,  you get a Twilight Zone type of story. This would actually make a really good episode of the Twilight Zone. I can picture that ending perfectly.

The ninth short story,  We Bare All, is nothing like what it seems. A group of friends need to stop for a rest and some gas. Probably should not have stopped in this little town.

In Underneath, is a horror story of what is under your bed. I got goosebumps with this story.

The last story, The Negative One, is the darkest story of them all. An evil lady that walks along the streets of Philadelphia. So dang good!

All of these stories are my favorite. I can’t pick just one. This book comes out just in time for Christmas! Pick up a copy for yourself and tuck this under the tree! And don’t forget to grab one for your besties!!

Intergalactic Exterminators, Inc by Ash Bishop

Thank you to #NetGalley, #AshBishop, and #VictoryEditing for letting me read and review #IntergalacticExterminatorInc.  Russ and Nina are in need of some financial help and a break from the stress of just trying to live a regular life. Then one day, Russ finds a rare gem in his late grandfather’s book shop. He asks his grandmother about the stone, and she does not know anything about it. She tells Russ to take it to Nina, who might know what it is. Only, Nina has no clue, as well. Thus begins a story unlike any Earthling could imagine. This story gave me many Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy vibes. There is planetary traveling, portals, humor, odd creatures, witty banter and a smidgeon of romance.  If you enjoy the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and need something similar, I highly recommend Intergalactic Exterminators, Inc. There is so much potential for more of this story, I am hoping for a series. I would love to learn more about the Intergalactic Exterminators cre...

The Trunk by Mia Dalia

This was a crazy story! It starts out smooth as molasses and then gets all twisted and dark. It’s one of those stories that escalates quickly going all outta left field. Bogdan and his wife buy their first home together and it comes with a basement… with a trunk in the basement. Nothing else is down in the basement but this weird trunk. He doesn’t think too much of it at first. Until he finally decides to open the trunk. Mia Dalia writes fantastic stories. She has quite an imagination to give her stories lots of twists and turns. She told me once that she enjoys psychology and I think she writes with that in mind. Her writing style invokes humanity’s inner demons and pushes the mind to harrowing events. If you are in the mood for a quick horror story with a psychological twist, you need to read The Trunk and Smile So Red by Mia; she will dig into your brain.

Thank you #NetGalley and author #LuluMayo for sending me a copy of this fantastic book 101 Super Cute Cat Things to Draw!! This is such a cute book! Lulu Mayo teaches us how to draw some of the cutest little cat things. It starts out with a section of using a color wheel. I love the title of one of them "Pawsitively Pretty Pastels". From there on, the author shows up 101 ways to draw a cat. Such as a cat dragon, a mushroom cat, a cat cabbage, and cats drawn as zodiac signs! Even if you don't draw all of the cats, this is definitely a must-have for all cat lovers!
